Signy Island

Before we even left the ship the locals were pleased to see us. The iceberg in the back is not imposed its real. They just look a bit like Ive "stuck" them on!

Welsh people are impressed by most things.

Pesky birds.

Well here are a few phots from today. We have been setting up the base on Signy Island in the South Orkneys and will continue to do so on tommorrow.

I was up at midnight to do my watch, 12 till 4. Saw the first iceberg of the season. It was a massive tabular berg probly about a mile or so long. It was really hard to tell as it was three miles away when closest (we saw it at around 6 miles). However when something looks massive at three miles away and it is blocking out the radar screen it definiatly is big. The thing was the berg behind it was even bigger!!!

At 4 I went down and got a few things ready for going into the base at Signy in the morning. Went to bed at 5 ish but was up at 0930 ready to drive the ships boats into the base. Thats where most of the photos have come from.
